Investigate the effects of Discharged Patients with Indwelling Double J Ureteral Stent by Different Follow-up Methods

Apr 25,2022

Recently, doctors from the Department of Urology at Guilin Medical University Affiliated Hospital, including Quan Xiangfeng, Jing Ji, and Lu Suqing, published a paper aiming to collect the information about the effectiveness of post-discharge health via telephone, email, and QQ follow-ups for patients with indwelling double-J ureteral stent. The study concluded that providing multiple follow-up options allows patients to choose based on their circumstances. Extending hospital-based health education to patients’ homes reduced complications, achieved positive social outcomes, and received high praise from patients and their families. The paper was published in Chinese Journal of Practical Nursing, Volume 27, Issue 5, 2011.

A total of 319 patients with indwelling double-J stent were randomly dividedinto four groups: a control group (88 patients), a telephone follow-up group (89 patients), an email follow-up group (70 patients), and a QQ follow-up group (72 patients). All groups received routine health education during hospitalization and before discharge. Post-discharge, doctors conducted follow-ups via telephone, email, or QQ for the respective groups to observe rehabilitation outcomes.

The telephone, email, and QQ groups exhibited significantly fewer complications during stent placement and demonstrated significantly better knowledge of complication prevention and management compared to the control group.
